The Gift Bag
We don't deliver children, but
this little one dove into her bag
looking for all the presents she
could find.
Smiling faces
The excitement and smiles are
worth it in the end because they
need to be are aware of how
much they are worth!

Every year the gift wrapping
commences and the wrapping
paper is flying. Santa's shop
should look so busy. Our
volunteers have hearts of gold.
How Santa Cop Started:
In 1990, while on midnight shift an officer listened to
WGN Radio out of Chicago. The over night host Jan
Coleman had received a call from an elderly woman who
lived on social security. The woman had called in and
told the story of how she had saved a few pennies out of
each check throughout the year to purchase a Christmas
tree. The problem was, the tree took all of what she had
saved and she had nothing left for decorations. She was
not looking for a hand out, but rather ideas for what she
could use around the house to make a beautiful tree for
her favorite holiday. Several people called in with
wonderful ideas. Finally the officer feeling his heart
strings being pulled called in and volunteered to
purchase decorations and send them to the woman if
she would allow the radio announcer to give him the
address.
The officer went back to the station and rallied his entire
shift to put together a nice box of lights and ornaments.
Some of the single officers who did not have decorations
decided to donate cash to buy the woman enough
groceries to insure she had a nice Christmas dinner.
The items were sent and the officers on shift gave me the
name Santa Cop.
The only thing I remember is her name was Madeline
and she was from Rockford, Illinois. My shift rejoiced and
everyone knew we had done something wonderful for
someone who needed a friend.
Not wanting this to be a one time thing, I started working
with local charity organizations to help families during the
blessed season.
Santa Cop is the local operation of CII that is dedicated to
caring for children during the Christmas holiday season.
On Christmas Eve each year Santa Cop rides to deliver
toys, clothes, winter jackets, and a Christmas dinner
(and more food) for children who would otherwise have
nothing. Many of which would not have had a meal, let
alone a tree or gifts. When Santa Cop walks through the
door of a child's home, a Christmas explosion happens
and every child is cared for. Each child is asked if they
know the reason for celebrating Christmas and the story
of the Birth of Christ is attached to each gift bag. The
Ministry seeks to care for the relationship of the child with
Christ as well as meet a physical need. We plant the
seeds of God's love for his children and let these kids
know they are loved and not forgotten.
